Abstract

The technology-based MARKALED model is used to simulate several greenhouse gas (GHG) abatement scenarios for the Province of Quebec, under a common set of economic assumptions. The six scenarios are selected in order either to investigate much publicized reduction targets, or to explore GHG taxes proposed by other researchers working with global models. The results of the analyses are discussed in some detail, and the role of supply options such as biofuels, hydro, and wind electricity is compared' with the role of end-use conservation and technological change, such as electric or hybrid automobiles, biofueI conversion of vehicles, and modification of the fuel mix for heating.
