Abstract

What role, if any, should forestry play in the reduction of atmospheric concentration of CO2 the main greenhouse gas (GHG) contributing to global warming? This is one of the lingering questions after the failure of the COP6 meeting at the end of 2000. Forestry and land use policies (more generally land use, land use change, and forestry or LULUCF) is one of the four mechanisms proposed in the Kyoto Protocol, along with an international market for GHG emission permits, the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), and Joint Implementation (JI).
